Note: some insurance companies also require EKGs and/or treadmill EKGs (stress tests), especially for policies with a high face value.

The following may be some questions you could be asked as part of your life insurance medical exam:

Your medical history

Your family’s medical history

Information about how to contact your primary doctor

Lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking, recreational drug use and exercise

How much life insurance you are interested in purchasing

Note: don’t hide any medical condition you may have, chances are that insurance companies will find the information they need through the Medical Information Bureau.

There are a number of simple steps you can take to make sure you get the best possible results at your medical exam

Get a good night’s sleep the night before the exam

Fast for eight hours before the exam if possible to ensure the most accurate results

Avoid caffeine for at least one hour before the exam

Avoid alcohol for at least eight hours before the exam

Don’t smoke for at least one hour before the exam

Don’t engage in strenuous exercise for 24 hours before the exam

Limit your consumption of salt and cholesterol for 24 hours before the exam

Cancel the exam if you get sick – even a minor infection can distort the results

Question:

People who smoke cigars occasionally have to pay smokers’ rates for life insurance in Houston, TX ?

Eva from Houston, TX

Answer:

Eva, thanks for asking the question.

Whether people who smoke occasionally have to pay smokers’ rate for life insurance in Houston really depends on different insurance companies. Some life insurance companies regard people who smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes per day as moderate smokers and more than 20 cigarettes per day as heavy smokers , and offer somewhat lower rates for those who smoke less. But unfortunately, there is not yet an industry-wide consensus on this issue. A few companies’ policies are that all forms of tobacco are equally harmful, and thus charge cigar smokers and cigarette smokers the same rates. Other insurance companies take a middle-of-the-road position, charging cigar smokers more than non-smokers but less than the heaviest-smoking class. Some insurance companies even consider cigar smokers to be nonsmokers, offering the lower rates typically reserved for those who don’t smoke cigarettes at all.

You can try calling your insurance agent or doing some research to find the best life insurance rates available.

Remember that insurance companies will typically reevaluate your rates if you quit smoking for at least a year

This side offers a list of smoker-friendly insurance companies, i am sure you can find the best one for you.

Question:

I work for an IT company Here in Houston, Texas. My companies Group life insurance seems to be more affordable way to get life insurance coverage compared to other life insurance policies, is it true?

Ann

Houston, TX

Answer:

Great question!

The definition for group life insurance is a life insurance policy where a single contract covers an entire group of people. Generally, the life insurance policy owner can be an employer or an entity, such as a labor organization, and the life insurance policy covers the employees or members of the group. Group life insurance is often provided as part of a complete employee benefits package. In most cases, the cost of group coverage is far less than you would pay for a similar amount of individual protection. So, if you are offered group life insurance through your employer or another group, it is a good deal – especially if you don’t have other life insurance or if your personal coverage is inadequate.

As the policy owner, the employer or other entity keeps the actual group life insurance policy which is called the “master contract”. All covered individuals typically receive a certificate of insurance. Although this certificate proves that you are insured, it is not actually a life insurance policy. As with other types of life insurance, group life insurance allows you to choose your beneficiary.

Term insurance is the most common form of group life insurance. Group term life insurance is typically provided in the form of yearly renewable term insurance. When group term insurance is provided through your employer, the employer will pay for most (and in some cases all) of the premiums. The amount of your coverage is typically equal to one or two times your annual salary. Group term coverage remains in force until your employment is terminated, or until the specific term of coverage ends. Generally, you have the option to convert your group coverage to an individual policy if you leave your employer. However, most people choose not to do this because individual premiums tend to be much higher than group premiums. If you are over 50 and or suffering from cancer or some other infirmity. It would be good to go with group life insurance. Typically, only those who are otherwise uninsured take advantage of this conversion option.

Question:

Is there a solution to the high cost of senior life insurance ?
A concerned couple from Dallas, TX

Answer:

I totally understand your concern and I am sure you are not the only couple who has been deterred from even attempting to apply for a policy there in Dallas.

The good news is that there is another option. A specific new life insurance for seniors has evolved over the past few years and it is called Premium Financing. It is not a new life insurance concept, but one that has come to the forefront recently. Some key factors can keep your cost down:

Get In Shape. Just walking a few minutes a day will keep your heart rate up and actually allow you to maintain a higher energy level throughout the day. I would recommend walking in the earlier morning to start your day off right.

If your a coffee drinker…make a conscious effort to drink one less cup a day and add a glass or two of water in its place. You will be amazed how much energy this will give you! Remember this can lower you rate when getting a new Term Life Insurance policy there in the Dallas area!

Flax oil two table spoons a day has enormous amounts of Omega Nutrients and has been known to slow the aging process. This essential oil is good for you and enables your body to heal itself over time. It can assist in lowering cholesterol .I would see this as good prerequisite to getting a cheaper life Insurance policy in Dallas, Texas.

The life expectancy now days has increased and people are living longer so getting Level Term Life Insurance for 20 to 30 years would not be out of the question.

Good Luck

Question:

We are new parents residing in Dallas, Texas. Should we buy life insurance for our new baby?

Paul

Answer:

I can’t think of a better gift for your child than a life insurance. Life is so unpredictable, and we never know what will happen tomorrow. Putting a life insurance policy in place for an infant or child, and guarding against the unforeseen or unexpected events that may happen in our child’s life proves to be a wise decision. When children are young and healthy, the premiums are at their lowest. On a whole life policy, the premiums are also locked or level through out the policy. They will never change or go up, no matter what happens. when they become an adult you can turn over to them the obligation of paying the premiums.

Life insurance for children is not costly and easy to set up.This site offers a Free and Easy way to quickly obtain comparative quotes from Highly rated Life insurance companies for pennies on the dollar! Just provide your zip code and your off and running.

Congratulations on your new arrival!
